#7751 Level Blockout

After speaking with Mat last week, I decided to make some changes to the game and address some problems. He was worried about the scope of the project. I decided to start fast to determine which feature I should cut out or preserve. I’ll also use some pre-made template (used template will be mentioned in the future post) to speed up the developing process.

This week I start to do grey box level design. This step is to determine the size for each object. And what kind of interaction player can do with the objects based on their location. I don’t want to make the level look overly realistic since it can be quite time consuming to make and doesn’t add anything to the gameplay. Therefore, I start doing research on finding other interactive works with similar style.

(1) Mirror’s Edge: a game which focuses on using colors to point out which directions the player should go, the simple style of color makes the semi- realistic world less distracting.

(2) Portal:  A game focuses on puzzle solving, it establishes rules with interactable object in games and encourage the player to use his or her knowledge to challenge the rule.
