The theme for CPS Week 7 was ‘Time as Material’ and to represent this theme I made an interactive piece of an umbrella changing its appearance depending on the season, in order to demonstrate the passing of time in a cycle or loop.
I made this work on Unity, with the help of Fungus and LeanTween for visual scripting and animating respectively. I made a lot of mistakes but ended up with a work I really like. Although it doesn’t have the level of animation I’m used to, as my first try at animating in Unity, it didn’t turn out too hideous.
I hope to continue with the interactive exercises in Unity, even though it might be painful, so that I can learn more about creating interactive works.
I was inspired by dress up games in general, specifically Miracle Nikki (奇迹暖暖), where the base of the character remains the same but the clothing and accessories change depending on what the player picks.
I received some feedback through my stream that I could change the clothes to be more season appropriate (eg: scarf+coat for winter/fall, lighter clothes for summer/spring). I considered this but I wanted to continue having the umbrella as the centerpiece for this work. Although I might experiment with this idea in other works.
