SEE THE SOUND

Context 

The topic is sound this week. I already had some ideas when I heard the word. Because I know that sound is an important part of animation, games or whatever media field. I searched the link about how animators create the sounds in animation( https://youtu.be/UO3N_PRIgX0 ) They seem to be doing  so interesting things, using the objects round our life to give them work sounds. 

But this time I want to study the deeper part, this video gave me inspiration. ( https://youtu.be/VetCO9s-VoU ) The sound is produced by the vibration of the object, and the frequency of the amplitude determines the size of the sound. I want to make a sound visualization animation so that everyone can see the sound more intuitively.

Method 

I will use 2d animation to make an animation demonstration video, using lines and colors to express different sounds in the same scene.

Response

The different colors in the video represent each different sound, and the sound out makes them change the movement of the lines. I first conceived a very common environment, an ordinary street outside the window in midsummer. Then I thought of some of the sounds that would be made, the sound of wind blowing over leaves, the sound of small animals, and the sound of cars driving by, and they corresponded to their line colors one by one. 

My idea is that the scene in the video is composed of lines, pictures and sounds. If the theme of this game is to see the sound, we can only keep the line part and remove the picture and sound part. Let the player create scenes based on the "sounds" they see, similar to the game you draw and guess.  I think this is a playable project.

Reflection 

In this exercise, I paid more attention to vision and playability. I think the visual aspect is very easy to expand, but the expansion of playability requires a lot of ideas and reference input. Sound may be a part that is difficult to be valued in a work, because people are often attracted by rich pictures, but sound is definitely an indispensable part. I searched a lot of artists’ videos this time, and then I found a subject that I recognized. Seeing the sound makes us feel its existence more intuitively, so I chose to give it playability in this regard. After several weeks of training, I think I have more and more experience in gameplay. First, I have communicated with my classmates through the works of other artists, and secondly, I have learned more about the meaning of gameplay.
