Title: Don't Mind the Gap
Work: Story thumbnails
This work examines ideas of narrative movement with still images. The starting premise was: She could move only when she stepped on the tile gaps/lines. The idea mutated into a different one.
By using static images to make an animation, I decided to create a series of protest posters that allow the viewer to know and delve into a partial context of the story thanks to the themes suggested them.
The three examples in this work are part of a large collection that tries to reveal every detail of the story and how people affected by a government system that observes and fines them when they step on a line on the ground are tired of being abused. The idea of this project is to allow the viewer to see a partial context, not a total one, which causes the person to ask himself several questions: What is happening? What is the problem? It is an exercise that seeks to reflect on the ease of judging a cause, because for lack of information, radical opinions or many other factors, in many cases people will not be able to fully understand the magnitude of a situation that they have not lived through.
In this work, the movement is reflected by the different sounds that are going to present different situations that society is going through (protest yells, sirens, situations of abuse by the government), which will allow the viewer to know the story without seeing complex animations or dynamic camera movements.
This work is similar to one of the audiovisual projects seen during the class called Big Train, where it presents a staring competition, which has moments where the characters do not move but the development is carried out through the comments of the storytellers of the competition.
