This work for week 2 of Animated Narratives examines the idea of alternate dimensions through a mind map. By using a mind map, I was able to create a graphical representation of the possible plot, structure and interactions involving the conception and existence of an alternate dimension, like time travelling or temporal paradoxes. This work is similar to the work of Zemeckis and Gale’s Back to the Future trilogy, whose movies explore the idea of manipulating the future by changing a past event. At first, constructing this mind map was very difficult, trying to fulfill my desire of getting immediate results and final conclusions. In a TEDxSquareMile 2012 talk called “The Power of a Mind to Map”, Tony Buzan, the man who popularized the term mind map, talks about the importance of this tool and demonstrates the advantages of visualizing an idea through imagination and association rather than complex or elaborated concepts. By breaking down the possibilities of alternate dimensions, I wanted to contemplate the creation of different types of paradoxes, referring to possible situations like the modification of the current timeline or the creation of different and unlimited realities.
