Intention and Summary for day 5 of AGI Workshop

3/07/2020 AGI Workshop Day 5

INTENTION: Storyboard

A)  TO DO

  • Find tutorial for PSD – ask for suggestions
  • Ask Chris about Storyboard Pro   David Beasley awaiting info from Toon Boon/ one-for-one off site license.
  • Shoot Cubes. Set up for Cubes. Draw Cubes?
  • Summarise to self for MAGI WIP Presentation\talk to existing notes
  • BE AWARE, short and broken up day today.
  • Ring Rachael re camera/ Unreliable connection between mine.

B)  Thumbnails for Diary. Thumbnails Strike if needed.

C) Brain breaks – response to discovered moments

RATIONALE
A) I need easy recourse to a quick method of putting thumbnails together.
B) Excited about the idea and want to develop it further to see if workable.
C) Provides physical activity, stretches ideas, opens scope for more.

CONTEXT
As yesterday. When are they relevant? Am I ready or do I keep working through the backlog. Context sources are collecting in my memory but can wait till the weekend to gather. (Notate them as they occur.)

METHODS
A) How – PSD tutorial/Storyboard Pro
B) Use thumbnails/filming/found objects/writing to take Diary as far as it will go. Look for opportunity to develop storyboard (or the weekend). Strike if I am getting stale, or any of the other sequences created.

OUTCOME
A) Carrot viewable as footage before daughter leaves at 3.30.
B) Thumbnails/preliminary storyboard for Diary.
C)
Anything else I have made!

SUMMARY

A) Not achieved. Question of using PSD lingers. Do I go back to TVPaint? This is becoming more pressing. Looking at footage of washing on line and want to either rotoscope or draw in digital form to speed up that part of the job.

B) METHOD  Thumbnails for Diary completed very loosely. Used short episodes of filming as I went to keep engaged because I was hitting a brick wall and losing confidence in the proposal. In retrospect a (terminology – prop or asset) threw me off; I made a week’s worth of pages then faced a storyboard that was long and complicated eg. For a five minute film would need one minute for each day and the washing line would appear how many times and so on. Kate says if it doesn’t work STOP what you are doing and DO SOMETHING ELSE. I did some of the test shoots I had considered and looked at Kate’s suggestions. Later in the day when family matters were resolved I sat back down to the board and saw a simple solution (pare back to one day only) and found I could keep moving with the idea.
I followed up particular details as they revealed themselves. Eg Which day? Research - Friday, based on Frigg, female Norse goddess who weaves the futures. Camera/iPhone issues eventually sorted*

CONTEXT  Follow up on Kate’s suggestions

C) Several small shoots testing ideas and clarifying intentions. (My WIP talk showed me I need to include footage I’ve shot. Animation is not a static thing – my talk was thinking like an illustrator.)

SPECIFIC LEARNINGS
> When using Powerpoint on Teams the moving Slideshow IS NOT VISIBLE to everyone else. Learn how to embed footage – ask Courtney how.
>*Stop Motion Studio and Remote Camera using an iPad (2) for Stop Motion and iPhone 8 as the remote camera. I connected the two in settings as “Remote Camera” as the name of my phone wasn’t coming up  - this was connecting but kept falling out. SOLUTION. Restart both devices and ONLY connect to your phone (you will see it’s name) in the options. I also upgraded to the paid Stop Motion Studio (AU$8.99). I don’t think this enabled the phone connection but it does make a clearer image in Stop Motion.
> VERY IMPORTANT Handling actual objects allowed them to suggest scenarios, better than I can produce in my mind sitting down.
