Rationale: Intention

My wish has always been the combination of 2D and 3D visual effects, and in the past, I had always wanted to show graphics in this new way. Through this project, I will learn more about software skill and make progress. At the same time, I will further learn post-production techniques such as 3D model sculpting and painting.

Context: Field

My field of expertise will be characters and scenes concept design, which encompasses all aspects of design that are related to animations.

The main driving factor for me to make this character is the online game Sky: Children of the Light, which is a popular app game. This game has given me a lot of imagination and inspiration, whether it is its exquisite graphics, special effects music, or openness and freedom. The exploratory nature and the background story deeply moved me.

The character of child in the game is not consistent with my image. I was deeply impressed by the shell of Bowser in Super Mario. I also looked for a lot of character references, combined with some impression of the game characters, such as maplestory, Zelda and so on, and felt that the role of five body fits this character. The child in the game set out directly in a simple boat, but I think the child should set out from a dock. So, I'm going to design a dock and platform.

Tools

For Week 1 - Query, collect and sum up related data for integration, conduct research and analysis, and determine the picture frames, then compare and analyze the integrated material, divide the styles of different animation character and plan the following production process rationally. Meanwhile, organize classic case videos found on the Internet for learning. Finalize character models and scene models.

Week 2-3 - Start designing, sculpt the models in ZBrush, and complete the dock scene modeling in MAYA. Summarize the weekly progress every week and carry out planning and arrangements according to the master plan.

Week 4 - Finish the rest of the scene, landscape and boat in Maya, and B starts to map and render hand.

Week 5- Import the exported sequence frames rendered by MAYA into AE for composition.

Week 6 - the short film is finally rendered by making special effects and sound effects.
